The Tucson Police Department invites applicants for the position of Community Service Officer (CSO). A CSO is a civilian employee who provides operational support to the constituency in a law enforcement environment where a commissioned officer is not required. The Community Service Officer is responsible for assisting the Field Services Bureau by responding to requests for community assistance, completing investigations, compiling reports for minor non-injury traffic accidents and criminal damage. The position supports the Code Enforcement Division by responding to calls for assistance with city policy and procedure information for minor criminal offenses.
Investigates crimes by interviewing witnesses and victims, dusting for fingerprints, gathering, tagging and storing evidence, taking photographs, confirming status of stolen property, initiating recovery procedures, and preparing reports.
Responds to and investigates traffic accidents by securing the collision scene, clearing the roadway, interviewing drivers and witnesses, arranging for medical care if necessary, taking photographs, entering information into a computer and preparing reports.
Provides customer service by answering the telephone, recording and entering information into a computer, responding to requests for information, gathering information to complete police reports and referring callers to agencies and resources.
Recovers located property, enforces parking ordinances, testifying in court, provides training for new personnel, participates in missing person searches and directs traffic.
