Introduction

The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is looking for experienced, enthusiastic

Music Instructors

to teach Guitar and Piano Music Programs at various City of Tucson recreation centers.

General Description

This is a non-permanent position that will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.

Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12 month period.

This position provides services to the patrons of the City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Leisure Class programs and is responsible for planning and conducting specialized skill acquisition classes. Please not the position of Class Instructor encompasses multiple specialized recreational areas and site locations, and many classes are scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays.

Essential Functions

Conducts instruction in a specialized area of music in connection with the fee instruction program offered to the public by the Parks and Recreation Department

Works in a recreation center setting with participants ranging in ages from toddlers to adults

Provides leadership and instruction in beginning to advance music

Provides instruction in the specialized area of music in one or more of the following: Piano and Guitar

Responsible for supervising 4-10 participants

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 1 year in a specialized recreational area

Special Job Requirements

All candidates must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification and pass a background screening upon hire

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the response to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will be invited to participate in Oral Board Interviews.

  • Oral Board Interviews will be held: Wednesday, May 22, 2019

The highest scoring applicants will be placed in the "Best Qualified" and "Qualified" band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for a selection decision. An applicant's placement on this list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:

  • 20% of your rating for Training and Experience
  • 80% of your Oral Board Interview
