Attends the Police Academy to learn the skills and practices of a Police Officer.
Assists with performing patrol duties by traveling through designated areas, searching for suspicious, hazardous or criminal activity, conducting field interviews with suspected offenders and making arrests.
With another officer, responds to routine and emergency calls by contacting the reporting person and witnesses, and determining the nature of the call and action to be taken.
Assists with crime prevention by attending public meetings, enforcing criminal and traffic laws, and identifying gang members and criminals.
Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Minimum Experience Qualifications: No experience required
Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License
At least two (2) years of driving experience
At least 21 years of age by academy graduation date
No felony convictions or drug abuse

Written Examination- The written examination will be conducted Friday, February 8, 2019, Saturday, February 9, 2019, and Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the Public Safety Academy, located at 10001 S. Wilmot Road, Tucson, AZ 85756. Applicants will choose a testing day and time that best accommodates their schedule.
Physical Fitness Assessment- The physical fitness assessment will be conducted Friday, February 8, 2019, Saturday, February 9, 2019, and Sunday, February 10, 2019 at the Public Safety Academy, located at 10001 S. Wilmot Road, Tucson, AZ 85756. Applicants will choose a testing day and time that best accommodates their schedule.
This is a pass/fail portion of the process and is based upon a modified Peace Officer Physical Aptitude Test (POPAT). The modified POPAT will include all elements of the standard AZ POPAT, minus the 6ft wall climb. The POPAT is not gender or age specific and all candidates must obtain 300 points by completing the following:
The physical fitness assessment is a minimum standard assessment and if selected for a position, individuals will need to perform at a higher standard than what is expected during the recruitment process. It is your responsibility to know your own physical condition. Individuals who are in a poor state of physical condition will have difficulty passing this examination. Your participation is at your own risk and the City of Tucson assumes no liability or responsibility for any injuries you may occur during this process.
Applicants must pass both the written examination and physical fitness assessment to proceed to the oral board. Applicants will be notified on February 11, 2019 of their final testing results. Candidates who pass both the written examination and the physical fitness assessment will receive an invitation to schedule an oral board interview.
Oral Board Interview- Interviews will be scheduled Wednesday, February 13, 2019 and Thursday, February 14, 2019 as a secondary date. Oral boards will be available by phone for candidates not able to attend an in-person oral board. Oral boards will take place at TPD Headquarters, located at 270 S. Stone Avenue. Applicants passing the oral board interview will be placed on a Civil Service Employment List for consideration by TPD.

All probationary employees in this classification are subject to random drug screening during their EIGHTEEN MONTH PROBATIONARY PERIOD with the Tucson Police Department.
Veterans, Native American, or Disability preference points will be added to the achieved score for those that are placed on the Civil Service Employment List.
