The City of Tucson Parks & Recreation Department is currently seeking reliable, dependable

General Maintenance Workers

for the general maintenance of the City of Tucson parks.

General Description

This is a non permanent position that will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.

Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12 month period.

Typical number of work hours for this position will not exceed 25 hours/week.

The General Maintenance Worker work outdoors. This position is responsible for the general maintenance of the City of Tucson park areas.

Work shifts are generally from 6:00 A.M. to 2:30 P.M, but may vary during scheduled events such as tournaments and games. 

Some weekend and holiday work may also be required.

*With new and upcoming programs in Parks & Recreation, some positions may offer work shifts from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.*

Essential Functions

Removes litter and debris from landscaped areas, playgrounds, and other public facilities

Cleaning, disinfecting, and servicing of parks public restrooms and ramadas for special events and rental/reservations

Assists in moving and setting up booths, bleachers, tables, benches, and other equipment used by the public for civic events

Assists in the installation, painting, and repair of playground equipment, ramadas, barbecue pits and stands, tables and benches, signs, booths, bleachers, fences, small buildings, and other structures and equipment

Collects parks area trash as a trash truck helper

Assists in performing manual tasks associated with general landscaping projects, including weeding

Assists with minor sprinkler system and drip irrigation adjustments and/or repairs

Assists in general manual construction projects

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: Less than High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: Under 1 year of professional experience in landscape maintenance or custodial services

Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. 

Applicant's will be placed in the "Best Qualified" and Qualified" band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for a selection decision. An applicant's placement on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:
