The Environmental & General Services Department (EGSD), Facilities Management Division is accepting applications for the position of Facilities Project Coordinator. The position involves the coordination and documentation of the contractual requirements of construction, remodeling and maintenance projects. This would involve estimating, inspecting, and surveillance of those projects.


To remain eligible, you must maintain your permanent or probationary Civil Service employment status through the actual date of transfer. If you are not a current permanent or probationary Civil Service employee at the date of transfer, you will not be eligible for this position. Non-permanent or appointed employees are not eligible.

The Eligibility List may be used by any City department with an approved vacancy to fill in the next 6 months. Selection will be made in accordance with CSR III, Section 2. The list of employees eligible for consideration will remain in effect for 6 months after their names are provided to the hiring authorities. Examination results and current status will be communicated by email.

General Description

Participates in the designing, drafting, and preparation of specification and cost estimates for projects. Conducting field observation and inspections of contractor work, services, and products to verify compliance with contract specifications, quality and quantity, completeness and timeliness. Participating in the development and composition of new revised contract language.  

Essential Functions

Manages construction phases of projects by monitoring budgets, maintaining schedules, monitoring contracts for compliance, identifying and resolving problems, documenting information, maintaining records, and processing construction documents.

Performs construction oversight by reviewing drawings and specifications, and performing on-site inspections to ensure accuracy, adherence to time frames, and code compliance.

Uses computer applications to design and draft projects, makes recommendations for code adherence, and consults with internal and external parties to coordinate legal and technical information into bid documents and specifications.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: 4 years and over inspecting and coordinating contractual requirements of architectural or engineering construction projects

Valid and Unrestricted Class D – Driver’s License

Special Job Requirements

This position requires working outside, around construction sites and building equipment, entering equipment rooms, negotiating tight spaces, climbing ladders, operating man lifts and accessing roofs.  Requires lifting and setting up a 24 ft. fiberglass extension ladder; approximately 50 pounds.

Knowledge of cost estimation techniques

Negotiation skills

Ability to understand contracts, read and understand blueprints and specifications, codes, and standards

Knowledge of various building systems

General knowledge of and experience in construction project administration and the general construction process

Familiarity with building codes

Ability to possess:

AHERA - Asbestos Contractor Supervisor Certification

AHERA - Asbestos Building Inspector Certification

AZ. Dept. of Agriculture - Pest Control Applicator License 

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in an oral board interview.

Oral boards will take place on: Tuesday, February 5, 2019

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on the Civil Service Employment List.  An applicant's ranking on the Civil Service list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:      

  • 10% of your education and work experience
  • 90% of your oral board interview

Selection interviews may be conducted post-list by the hiring manager.
