The Parks & Recreation Department is looking for experienced enthusiastic instructors to teach our Little Movers and Shakers Motor Development classes at various recreation centers.

General Description

This is a non-permanent position that will work on an intermittent or seasonal basis.

Individuals in this classification may not exceed 1,300 hours in a 12 month period.

This position provides service to the patrons of the City of Tucson Parks & Recreation Leisure Class programs and is responsible for conducting motor development classes.  Please note that the position of Class Instructor encompasses multiple specialized recreational areas and site locations, and that many classes are scheduled Monday - Friday mornings and on Saturdays.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts instruction in motor development in connection with the fee instruction program offered to the public by the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Follows curriculum based teaching
  • Leads parent / adult involved playgroup focusing on skills in motor development.
  • Supervises the activities of program participants to ensure participant safety during the instructional process; follows appropriate emergency procedures to protect the well-being of participants.
  • Adheres to applicable Parks and Recreation procedures, rules and regulations; completes required forms and activity records and reports; communicates with the parents of school age participants, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 1 year in a specialized recreational area

Special Job Requirements

All candidates must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification and a pass a background screening upon hire

Selection Plan

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in an Oral Board interview.

Notifications of applicant status will be sent by email on August 21, 2018. Please make sure to monitor your email for interview information

  • Oral Board Interviews will be held: Thursday August 30, 2018.

The highest scoring applicants will be placed in the "Best Qualified" and "Qualified" band (grouping) and provided to the hiring department for a selection decision. An applicant's placement on the list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:

  • 20% of your rating for Training and Experience
  • 80% of your Oral Board interview
