Maintains the readiness of tools and emergency equipment by performing daily vehicle maintenance and inspections, ensuring tools and equipment are in proper working order, calculating hydraulic pressures and aerial positioning, performing drills with apparatus and equipment, and maintaining logs and records.
Provides emergency care of patients by providing medical assistance in dangerous and contagious disease environments, lifting heavy items off of victims, and participating in monthly and yearly classes for Emergency Medical Technician and Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation certification. Responds to emergencies by transporting personnel and equipment safely to and from emergency scenes, assisting in firefighting operations, and performing rescues.
Performs public relations by conducting public education classes at schools, giving station tours and safety demonstrations, and providing public assistance.
Conducts fire prevention inspections of buildings for fire hazards, and inspects fire protection equipment.
Performs related duties by cleaning the station, recruiting and training personnel, maintaining physical fitness, inspecting and testing fire hydrants, and complying with all procedures as outlined in department manuals and by management.
May be required to respond to and mitigate hazardous materials incidents by identifying and isolating hazardous materials releases, stopping leaks, minimizing exposure to the public, and returning the scene to a safe condition.
Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 2 years as a TFD Fire Fighter
Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation Certification
Arizona Fire Fighter I and II Certification

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
