General Description

Protects life and property through the enforcement of criminal laws and crime prevention. Responds to emergency situations and complaints.

Essential Functions

Responds to routine and emergency calls by contacting the reporting person and witnesses, and determining the nature of the call and action to be taken.

Conducts field interviews, serves arrest warrants, and issues summonses.

Searches persons, places, and things.

Seizes and impounds property and evidence.

Performs patrol duties by traveling through designated areas, searching for suspicious, hazardous, or criminal activity.

Pursues offenders by patrol vehicle and on foot; stops offenders, subdues resisting offenders using force where appropriate, including deadly force, and arrests offenders.

Performs crowd and riot control activities. Monitors entrance and departure of employees, visitors, and other persons to guard against theft and maintain security of premises.

Responds to alarms or emergencies and investigates disturbances. Writes reports of daily activities and irregularities, or unusual occurrences.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 2 years satisfactory commissioned service with Tucson Police Department and Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Certification in a status that is eligible for reactivation

Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License

Special Job Requirements

Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Certification (AZ POST Certified)

At least two (2) years of driving experience

U.S. Citizenship

At least 21 years of age

Under 70 years of age

No felony convictions or drug abuse

Driving Requirements

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
