Supervises and coordinates the daily work of employees and outside contractors in the plumbing and fuel systems units.
This job reports to: Facilities Management Superintendent.
Manages, coordinates, and determines priorities of workload, monitoring levels of resources, establishing timelines, assigning work, monitoring progress, recommending changes and suggestions, writing, reviewing and editing reports prepared by staff, and approving completed projects and reports.
Supervises and coordinates the equivalent of two or more fulltime employees and all assigned work in a unit ensuring timely and quality activities to respond to the needs of the city, community, department, and unit.
Ensures that unit work conforms to local, state, and federal governmental regulations, and other applicable rules and requirements.
Implements controls for appropriate unit staffing and effectiveness by participating in the recruitment and hiring of employees, making recommendations on employee discipline, and other human resources issues, evaluating and managing employee performance, discussing, and identifying personnel issues and facilitating resolutions, promoting positive morale in the unit, ensuring staff is trained appropriately for maximum performance, and providing leadership and guidance.
Promotes customer relations by responding to requests for service, investigating and resolving emergencies, complaints, and problems; keeps customers informed on project status; coordinates schedules and "outages" with customers to minimize inconvenience.
Participates in facility design and review by reviewing plans and specifications, recommending changes, attending design review meetings, attending building inspections and coordinating blue staking.
Performs related duties by maintaining and streamlining files and databases, and supervising security systems.
Assists with the implementation, evaluation, and interpretation of department policies, projects, and procedures.
Contributes to the needs of the community and city by implementing and causing others to implement the organization's values and strategies by leading through example, competency, and accountabilities.
Responds to CNG emergencies which directly affect public transportation and liquid fuels which directly affect all emergency vehicles; Fire, Police, EMTs and all city vehicles.
Provides customer service by responding to information requests, conducting research, providing solutions to problems, and correcting errors.
Orders and acquires materials by visiting job sites, determining needed materials, gathering information on materials and new equipment, preparing specifications and requisitions, evaluating quality of materials, and participating in the selection of contractors.
Coordinates work of outside contractors by meeting with contractors, gathering estimates for repairs and service, preparing contracts, establishing specifications, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating work, acting as a liaison between contractors, the city and the public, ensuring project completion, inspecting buildings and contract jobs and authorizing payment.
Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 4 years supervisory experience in the plumbing construction trades
Journey Level Plumbing license, Arizona Plumbing Contractor's license or have successfully completed an accredited Plumbing Trade training program.
Certification in installation, maintenance and repair of high pressure stainless piping
Compressed Natural Gas Certification
