This is a senior position. It differs from other positions in the classification series by performing tasks at a proficient, accomplished level and handling the more difficult, complex or irregular tasks. Individuals in senior positions typically assist in setting priorities for work and are asked upon occasion to use judgment to solve unusual problems. Work requires functioning as a senior worker performing essentially the same work as those directed and includes overseeing work quality, training, instructing, and scheduling work.
Removes debris and weeds from City rights-of-ways and grounds.
Prepares surfaces, spreads asphalt, seals cracks, and performs other maintenance to streets and roads.
Provides emergency service by responding to calls for services which may include conducting storm post clean up, servicing bridges for de-icing, and setting-up and taking down signs and barricades. Standby may be required.
Repairs, issues and maintains tools and equipment, repairs broken irrigation lines, maintains inventory, hauls loads to landfill and spots hazardous materials, mixes and pours cement.
Under general supervision operates heavy pieces of equipment and performs skilled maintenance work; serves as back-up to equipment operators; trains frequently in the operation of light equipment (i.e. back hoe, loader, small dump truck, etc.).
Operates specialized equipment – tractors, large/small riding mowers, weed mowers, power washers, irrigation systems, dump trucks, pickup trucks, utility trucks, backhoes, tampers, plate compactors, saws, pumps, compressors, trenchers, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, radios, and phones.
Hauls asphalt, sand, and gravel from material yard.
Assists in preventative maintenance for flood control.
Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 1 year maintaining and repairing streets, sidewalks, and drainage ways, and operating heavy equipment.

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
