Performs random and planned inspections of loads for hazardous and banned materials at the landfill tipping face.
Periodically assists in collecting and managing household hazardous wastes at the landfill.
Monitor methane gas/download data and collect soil vapor samples.
Ensure compliance with 40 CFR 258.23, methane monitoring of landfill facility structures.
Perform Method 9 (Air Permit - Title V) observations at landfills and other facilities.
Perform Surface Emission Monitoring (SEM Title V) / download data.
Perform Storm Water (SWPPP) inspections.
Apply chemicals to groundwater treatment storage pond to control algae(seasonal).
Perform Mosquito abatement at City landfills (seasonal).
Periodically assist other operations at the active landfill such as the tipping area.
Ensure compliance forms are completed in a timely manner and delivered to the appropriate filing office.
Observe and report Flare Status of active and non-active landfills.
Monitor landfill leachate system.
Monitor and maintain storm water quality by installing and removing samplers and their probes, collecting samples, completing forms and reports, documenting sampling data.
Maintain and repair field instrumentation by calibrating probes, gas analyzers, sounders, and transducers on a daily, weekly and or monthly basis.
Monitor the water quality of groundwater by purging wells, taking water level measurements, gathering data, and collecting samples and reporting data using basic computer programs and hand held computer devices.
Monitor and collect wastewater samples for the City's Industrial wastewater permits.
Minimum Education Level & Type: Associate's Degree
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 2 years collecting and processing environmental field samples and data, maintaining field equipment, and keeping accurate electronic and paper records.
Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License
Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Certification
Competency with computer software such as databases and spreadsheets

Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
