Stores and disposes of household hazardous waste in conformance with all pertinent federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Categorizes waste brought to a Collection Facility or Landfill. Performs segregation, drum packing and bulking of hazardous waste which includes identifying, segregating, storing, processing and preparing household hazardous waste (HHW) for shipment or temporary storage.
Bulk sorts materials into 55 gallon drums in preparation for proper disposal. Items include oil, antifreeze, flammable & combustible liquids, soaps & waxes, chlorinated flammables, and latex paint.
Prepares drums for shipping with appropriate markings and labeling;coordinates shipments; prepares manifests for shipment.
Transports HHW pursuant to local, state and federal guidelines; loads and unloads vehicles.
Prepares hazardous materials shipping logs and coordinates with contractor/vendor shipping schedules, container inventory, waste profiles, and manifests.
Maintains certification as an authorized signer for hazardous materials/waste shipments.
Determines business hazardous waste generator status consistent with federal regulations to meet the eligibility requirements for disposal of hazardous waste/materials through the Small Business Waste Assistance Program (SBWAP).
Reviews SBWAP billing for accuracy and compliance with established fee schedules.
Serves as Alternate Custodian for the ES/HHW Imprest Account (Change Fund), and reconciles daily sales and credit card transactions in compliance with financial documentation policies.
Trains HHW Technicians on hazardous materials management, and maintains forklift train-the-trainer certification through the Arizona Department of Safety and Health (ADOSH) to certify on-site drivers.
Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 3 years experience which involves the formal identifying, collecting, packaging and disposing of household hazardous and universal waste materials
Valid and Unrestricted CDL - Class C
Medically qualified to wear respirator
24-hour Hazardous Waste Operations (HAZWOPER)
DOT 3-day Hazardous Materials Training
Forklift Permit
Annual Respirator Program evaluation/certification

License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
