Stores and disposes of household hazardous waste in conformance with all pertinent federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
Categorizes waste brought to a Collection Facility or Landfill. Performs segregation, drum packing and bulking of hazardous waste which includes identifying, segregating, storing, processing and preparing household hazardous waste (HHW) for shipment or temporary storage.
Bulk sorts materials into 55 gallon drums in preparation for proper disposal. Items include oil, antifreeze, flammable & combustible liquids, soaps & waxes, chlorinated flammables, and latex paint.
Prepares drums for shipping with appropriate markings and labeling; coordinates shipments; prepares manifests for shipment.
Transports HHW pursuant to local, state and federal guidelines; loads and unloads vehicles.
Operates a variety of equipment, machinery and tools used in department projects and activities which may include a pickup truck, forklift, testing and sampling equipment, emergency response equipment, respirator, meters, gauges, weight scales and various hand tools.
Maintains files and/or database of documentation of wastes received and shipped. Maintains regulatory required files such as hazardous waste and universal waste manifests, non-hazardous material bills of lading, reports submitted to regulatory agencies, asbestos disposal records, permits, notifications, logs, or other documents.
Maintains a current working knowledge of applicable laws/regulations pertaining to household hazardous and universal wastes; maintains awareness of new trends/advances in the profession, attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least two years formally identifying, collecting, packaging, and disposing of household hazardous and universal waste materials
Valid and Unrestricted CDL - Class C with HazMat and Air Brake endorsements

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
