Assists with the implementation, evaluation and interpretation of department policies, projects and procedures. Monitors work efficiency by reviewing and adjusting route size, incorporates expanding service areas, assists with the development and implementation of automatic meter reading systems, issues work orders and checks reports for productivity and efficiency
Manages, coordinates, and determines priorities of workload, monitors levels of resources, establishes timelines, assigns work, monitors progress, recommends changes and suggestions, writes, reviews and edits reports prepared by staff, and approves completed projects and reports. Implements controls for appropriate unit staffing and effectiveness by participating in the recruitment and hiring of employees, makes recommendations on employee discipline, and other human resources issues, evaluates and manages employee performance, discusses and identifies personnel issues and facilitates resolutions, promotes positive morale in the unit, ensures staff is trained appropriately for maximum performance, and provides leadership and guidance
Coordinates the selection of the size and types of meters needed to accurately measure water usage for residential and commercial purposes, including piloting and evaluating new metering products. Coordinates and monitors the equipment, training, safety and performance of personnel. Ensures that unit work conforms to local, state, and federal governmental regulations, and other applicable rules and requirements
Provides customer service by responding to information requests, conducts research, provides solutions to problems, and corrects errors. Contributes to the needs of the community and City by implementing and causing others to implement the organization's values and strategies by leading through example, competency, and accountability
Processes and schedules routes for meter reading and billing purposes. Retrieves and distributes statistical meter reading times and reports, ensures route assignments are completed. Contacts customers or contractors requesting contact. Serves as a liaison between departments and contractors by inspecting and evaluating installations, enforces water codes, contacts contractors when meter sets do not meet specifications, discusses resolutions and maintains databases
Acquires and analyzes data from systems. Reviews, analyzes, collects samples, and reports results on water tests. Reviews and performs pressure and flow measurements, and installs pressure recording devices. Oversees the Job Order Contracts for the installation of new water services and meters, fire services, fire hydrants, and small main extensions. Installs and tests fire hydrant meters and backflow assemblies
Establishes schedules and responds to commercial requests for meter inspections or repairs. Completes work orders by locating meters, completes or arranges investigations, engineering out safety hazards, corrects or recommends solutions regarding meter problems and issues. Promotes a safe work environment by investigating and resolving unsafe conditions, provides the proper tools, conducts safety meetings, and coordinates safety issues
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
Knowledge of principles and practices of supervision and personnel administration
Knowledge of department policies and procedures, and City codes and ordinances pertaining to water customer services, account billing, and collection
Knowledge of various computerized systems and software, including the Water Customer Information System (WCIS), water meter reading system (ITRON), Work Field Order system (W.F.O.), word processing, and spread sheets
Knowledge of geography and street locations in the City
Ability to read and interpret fiscal data
Ability to gather pertinent facts and statistics, make thorough analysis, arrive at sound conclusions, and report research findings and recommendations in a clear, complete, and logical form
Ability to analyze and solve problems according to learned department and City policies, regulations, and ordinances
Perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others
Ability to communicate orally with co-workers, customers, clients, or the public in a face-to-face, one-to-one setting or using a telephone
Ability to produce written documents with clearly organized thought using proper English sentence construction, punctuation, and grammar

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
