This is a lead position affording guidance to other positions performing the same tasks. This lead position also reviews workloads, assigns work and coaches employees with specialized instructions and practices for job accomplishments. Lead personnel may contribute to other employees' performance evaluations, assist with the hiring process by interviewing and making recommendations and providing input to supervisory staff.
Participates in and directs activities associated with maintaining, monitoring, and repairing water distribution and metering systems by utilizing maps and plans to identify operational and service conditions, service in, replacing or resetting meters, installing fire hydrant meters and backflow assemblies, repairing leaks/breaks, flushing and purging water lines, locating and excavating water mains and services, cleaning or replacing parts, patching excavation, maintaining pressure regulators, and testing equipment for proper operation.
Inspects and repairs large transmission mains. Operates and exercises valves.
Conducts meter readings by utilizing computers to enter data and/or readings, reports meters/meter boxes in need of replacement or repair, and investigates abnormal usage; conducts quality check of repairs or installations, reviewing time cards and incident reports.
Monitors work activities by assisting with training of new personnel, assisting in determining job priorities, inspecting installations for compliance with specifications, coordinating work with contractors, practicing operations and equipment safety, coordinating traffic control and safety issues, and assisting with the design and sequencing of meter reading routes.
Initiates or terminates water service to customers, identifies and explains service problems or conditions, responds to complaints or requests for information, and explains water service problems.
Handles difficult or complex issues with customers and contractors, including communicating and explaining investigation results and relevant water service policies and programs and recommends solutions.
Minimum Education Level & Type: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 2 years repairing and installing water distribution components and metering systems
Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
