General Description

Leads personnel in coordinating the dissemination of public information and in providing graphics support to increase public knowledge, and utilization of City opportunities.

Essential Functions

This is a lead position affording guidance to other positions performing the same tasks. This lead position also reviews workloads, assigns work and coaches employees with specialized instructions and practices for job accomplishments. Lead personnel may contribute to other employees' performance evaluations, assist with the hiring process by interviewing and making recommendations and providing input to supervisory staff.

Coordinates the Public Information Program by planning, developing and implementing the program including media relations, publication, printed materials and marketing strategies.

Coordinates public information dissemination and plans and coordinates special events in cooperation with other staff, units, and agencies.

Plans programs, presentations and special events by scheduling presentations and special events, conducting research, meeting with personnel and the public, acting as a liaison and establishing relationships with organizations, writing and reviewing materials, reporting on program activities and results, preparing presentation materials, setting up displays, delivering presentations and answering questions.

Creates and distributes marketing packages and communications materials by researching, writing and designing materials, working with vendors, customers, coordinating the distribution of materials, monitoring budgets, preparing correspondence and assisting in buying advertising.

Communicates information through the media by planning and coordinating media events, writing and disseminating press releases and story ideas, developing and maintaining relationships with editors and reporters, maintaining and updating website, creating and developing advertisements, and tracking media coverage.

Performs administrative duties by answering telephone and email messages, requesting information, completing reports, running errands, photographing events, working collaboratively with City personnel, developing schedules, writing and coordinating newsletters and calendars of events.

Performs some or all of the following related duties: coordinating fundraisers, producing television shows, developing and overseeing contracts and grants, attending meetings, conferences, coordinating public meetings, notifying personnel and government representatives, preparing correspondence, providing support to boards. Commission and committees as requested, proofs and edits written material as requested, and maintains media database.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor's Degree

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 4 years of experience coordinating the dissemination of public information and providing graphic support

Driving Requirements

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
