RECREATION INCLUSION COORDINATOR (#3326)

$17.50-$28.35 Hourly / $36,400.00-$58,968.00 Yearly

General Description

Promotes successful inclusion of individuals with disabilities into community-based events, facilities and programs including leisure classes, aquatics, camps and after-school programs. Types of support may include communication support, behavior support, personal care support, mobility support, medication/medical support, etc. 

This classification is a front-line supervisor who will supervise at least one permanent employee. This position will plan and direct work of others, hires, trains, prepares performance appraisals, and approve       

This classification will oversee the classifications of Recreation Assistant, Senior Recreation Worker, and volunteers. 

Essential Functions

Conducts individualized assessments based on the client’s physical, cognitive, and social abilities/limitations for successful participation in a community recreation setting. 

Determines what accommodations are needed including additional training for staff, creating behavioral plans, recommendations for adaptive equipment.

Implement the therapeutic recreation program based on the individual assessment and providing on-going support to the individual in achieving established goals. Determine most appropriate placement is in specialized therapeutic program or recreation inclusion program. 

Determine if adaptations are needed for individuals' success in therapeutic recreation program. Examples include establishing a behavior plan, providing adaptive equipment. 

Collaborate with other agencies, schools, professionals' network, and with disability community groups. 

Provide guidance, expertise and mentorship to department staff for acceptance and accommodation for including individuals with disabilities. 

Conducts interviews, hires, trains, directly supervises and evaluates recreation inclusion aides who work with individuals with disabilities in community recreation programs.  Develops work standards and guidelines for job performance. 

Ensure Department Compliance with American with Disabilities Act (ADA) 

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

Minimum Experience:  At least two years’ experience in planning and conducting recreation programs for individuals with disabilities.  Must have experience in the supervision of individuals with disabilities.

Special Job Requirements

Certified Therapeutic Recreations Specialist (CTRS) required prior to the end of the one-year probationary period and keep certification in good standing thru employment. 

Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification

First-Aid Certification

Driving Requirements

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
