General Description

This is highly skilled recreation work involved in providing professional recreation programming at a facility or in a specialty program/area such as in Pottery, Lapidary, Photography, Boxing, Therapeutics, Performing Arts, and Aquatics. Work includes planning for, conducting and instructing courses and events, in addition to assisting and serving as lead staff person in a specialty area. Minimal supervision is received from a Recreation Supervisor.

Essential Functions

Plans, organizes, and conducts a variety of programs in a specialized field of recreation such as pottery, photography, boxing, performing arts, and aquatics.

Maintains updated skills and techniques in specialty area, and develops appropriate classes and programs for class participants.

Handles public inquiries and problems, attends meetings, and provides input on recreation related matters as assigned.

Conducts physical inventory of all equipment under one's charge, participates in evaluation of programs and facility operations, and makes appropriate recommendations.

Trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff; ensures correct implementation of policies, procedures and directives that affect them.

Schedules and supervises facility and equipment use and reports safety and liability problems, damage, or loss of equipment to supervisor.

Maintains records and prepares reports, brochures, and informational materials relating to specialty area.

Orders and maintains inventory of materials and supplies.

Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 1 year planning, organizing, instructing, and conducting recreational activities in area specialty preferably at college level.duties.

Driving Requirements

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
