Occasionally directs helpers, assistants, seasonal employees, interns, volunteers or temporary employees and may temporarily act in a higher capacity.
Conducts comprehensive and technical plans review for fire resistive requirements, code compliance, access, water availability, hazardous materials, zoning restrictions, and permit requirements.
Reviews fire protection plans involving underground piping installations, wet and dry sprinkler installations, stand pipe systems, fire pump installations, kitchen exhaust hood fire suppression systems, clean agent systems, pre-action systems, and fire alarm plans.
Confers with architects, engineers, contractors, building officials, fire service personnel, and property owners regarding the application and interpretation of adopted/recognized codes and regulations. Conducts construction and highly technical fire protection field inspections.
Coordinates plan review activities with other city departments and outside agencies.
Assess fire-related fees for new development and construction activities. Participates in evaluating current fire safety conditions.
Provides assistance to enforcement inspectors and general public regarding building and fire code inquiries, and code interpretation.
Maintains complete records of plans reviews to include computer data entry.
Maintains certification and technical knowledge of fire and life safety systems, codes, and construction materials and methods through such means as attending conferences and seminars, reviewing professional publications, taking classes and participating in developmental activities.
Minimum Education Level & Type: Associate's Degree
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 3 years experience in plans examination involving the use of regulations and adopted building and fire codes and standards, and the performance of complex plans review for general construction and common engineered facilities.

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D, or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
