General Description

Orders, stores, assembles, picks up and delivers supplies and equipment for City departments. Maintains storage facilities, inventory levels, and computerized procurement records.

If assigned to Automotive: Coordinates the acquisition and distribution of automotive parts, materials, and services for Fleet Services.

If assigned to Transportation: Maintains warehouse inventory for Streets and Traffic Maintenance. This includes inventory of traffic signal materials, street light materials, repairs power tools, sharpens chainsaws and builds signal heads.

If assigned to Water: Coordinates the acquisition and delivery of specialty water distribution and maintenance parts, components, materials, and services

Essential Functions

Manages and maintains inventory levels by communicating with contract officers.

Analyzes inventory reports to prepare requisitions, place orders, expedite orders, replenish deleted stocks, prepare orders, and transfer inventory. 

Assists in the receiving area by loading and unloading items, receiving stock and special-order items, identifying, and resolving discrepancies, distributing items, completing reports, entering data into computer, filing orders, and delivering items. 

Issues stock parts by determining items needed, pulling parts and entering data into computer.  

Conducts periodic inventory. 

Returns items by sorting, categorizing, determining the vendor, researching current inventory needs, processing paperwork, entering data requirements, and contacting vendors. 

Special-orders parts and maintains records, researches for correct materials, conducts visual inspections, and negotiates parts through contracts with vendors. 

Logs orders, charges the appropriate accounts, enters data into the computer, expedites priority and past due orders, resolves invoice discrepancies and handles returns, and credits and warranties. 

Assembles and maintains parts and equipment.

If assigned to Automotive/Transportation:  Oversees rental programs. 

If assigned to Water: Prepares data processing transmittals and enters P-card data utilizing computer to record financial transactions for accounts receivable, accounts payable, other P-card processing and other related accounting functions. Delivers emergency repair parts/water to field locations and special events.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: 6 months post High School

High School Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 2 years in warehousing operations, inventory control, materials management, or related field. 

Valid and Unrestricted Class D - Driver's License

Special Job Requirements

Forklift Operator Certification within 90 days of hire.

Pre-employment Medical Testing Requirements

Basic Physical for all departments. 

If at Water Department, 75 lb lift.

If at Environmental and General Services Department, 50 lb lift.

Driving Requirements

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
