Conducts City/State business sales tax audits to determine compliance with State and City tax laws.
Audits financial records of local businesses to calculate sales and use tax liability.
Organizes income information into appropriate schedules and reconciles differences between audited and reported income for computing liability and determining appropriate assessment or refund.
Communicates with the public to discuss audit results with taxpayers.
Prepares detailed audit reports for each audit; reports include findings, and detailed explanation of how results are compiled, computed and justified using Court cases, the Tucson City Tax Code Sections and Regulations, and the Arizona Revised Statues and Administrative Code.
Conducts multi-jurisdictional audits; requires coordinating audits and findings with the auditors from other jurisdictions, requires basic knowledge of tax code differences among other agencies.
Evaluates taxpayers' systems to determine the reliability of accounting records and makes recommendations to taxpayers on improving record keeping to be in compliance.
Educates citizens on the correct application of tax codes and reporting requirements for their business activity.
Prepares documents for issuing assessments.
Obtains current licensing information from taxpayers.
Educates taxpayers on their right to appeal and responds to protests regarding issues involved in the appeal process.
Provides guidance and educates taxpayers on the City and State Tax Codes that relate to their business.
Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 2 years of professional accounting and general auditing experience that includes the use of finance or accounting software

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
