The Internal Auditor conducts audit services to meet the objectives of the City's audit plan. Work includes comparing the cost of City services to their associated user fees, evaluating the efficiency, quality and timeliness of operations and systems, auditing departmental accounts and records to determine compliance with established accounting policies, procedures and contracts, and formulating recommendations to improve or correct departmental systems and procedure.
Assignments require trips to departmental field offices. Work is performed with considerable independence subject to established departmental policies and procedures, and supervision is provided by the Deputy City Manager, Assistant City Manager, and lead work provided through the Senior Internal Auditor who reviews work through reports and conferences.
Examines or reviews departmental documents, including records, accounts, salary payrolls, journal vouchers, reimbursement claims, and monthly bank reconciliation statements, to determine compliance with Federal, State and/or City laws and regulations.
Audits books and records of concessionaires, contractors, and partner organizations working under agreements with the City to determine compliance with contracts and agreements.
Observes department employees performing on-site physical inventories.
Evaluates the operational efficiency and program results of departments.
Produces written audit reports which include recommendations to improve or correct financial and operational systems and procedures.
Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor's Degree
Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 2 years fill time professional experience in internal auditing or closely related field.
Additional Requirements:
Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a city vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions.
