This is a senior position. It differs from other positions in the classification series by performing tasks at a proficient, accomplished level and handling the more difficult, complex or irregular tasks. Individuals in senior positions typically assist in setting priorities for work and are asked upon occasion to use judgment to solve unusual problems.
Prepares specialized reports by gathering data from ledgers, journal entries, and budget reports, preparing spreadsheets, summarizing, reconciling, analyzing, and/or consolidating financial information, and comparing and explaining differences in certain account balances.
Conducts City business sales tax audits by conducting interviews with taxpayers or their representatives, reviewing records, organizing income information into appropriate schedules, computing liability, determining appropriate assessment or refund, discussing audit results with taxpayer, and reviewing and completing audits performed by other jurisdictions on behalf of the City.
Prepares fund folders by gathering information, developing spreadsheets and reports, identifying and explaining financial variances, preparing adjusting entries, and preparing fund financial statements for inclusion in the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
Performs administrative work by processing paperwork, generating financial transactions, preparing billing information, communicating issues to various personnel, maintaining files, preparing and reviewing vouchers, and answering questions from other City departments.
Conducts City internal audits, reviews, precontract evaluations, cost analysis, and special projects by formulating audit programs, conducting interviews, examining policies, procedures, and financial data, preparing spreadsheets and other work papers, analyzing information collected, identifying problems and solutions, and writing reports for management and outside agencies contracting with the City.
Ensures validity of account numbers for fund transactions, prepares fund folders, assists other accountants/auditors, answers questions, interprets codes, monitors and capitalizes assets, assists with special projects, and coordinates inventory.

The following information pertains to driving requirements for this classification with the City of Tucson. Under "Driving Level" None, Secondary or Primary, refers to the driving responsibility as it relates to the essential functions of the classification. License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
