General Description

Performs complex, integrated computer programming, data analysis, and software development for GIS applications, to include maintenance of existing systems and research/development for future systems and/or enhancements.

Essential Functions

The GIS Programmer position designs, creates, modifies, or manages GIS software applications.

Time is divided between the maintenance of current applications and the design of new applications. The GIS Programmer may also be called upon to do mapping.

Provides internet and web based support, as well as technical support to other GIS professionals.

Develops spatial and non-spatial databases.

Position is responsible for effectively integrating GIS with other applications and enterprise database systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Level & Type: Bachelor's Degree

Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 3 years of experience in programming in Visual Basic, C++ or vendor specific GIS software programming languages 

Special Job Requirements

Ability to interpret user needs into useful applications, and a strong background in GIS and database theory.

Driving Requirements

License Type, is just that, the type of Arizona Driving License required for the classification. If the position requires a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), the endorsements will be listed under "Endorsements." Under Safety Sensitive a "Yes" means employees with this classification are subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. License Type A,B,C,D,or M may require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage. Exceptions to classification driving requirement's may exist based on position.
