Posting as it will provide important information regarding the application
process and promotional exam.
Working knowledge of: modern police procedures, methods and terminology; civil and criminal laws, police rules and regulations, and standard operating procedures; local geography.
Some knowledge of: supervisory techniques; effective training techniques.
Ability to: train and evaluate subordinate employees; perform complete and thorough investigations; analyze problems and objectively deal with people; observe and record incidents clearly and completely, and write clear and concise reports; give directions and act calmly and quickly in emergency or hazardous situations; perform the duties of sergeant as required; establish and maintain effective working relationships with trainees, other officers, supervisors, officials, and the general public.
Skill in: the use and care of firearms and other standard police equipment; the operation of motor vehicles.
For Examination Participation

One (1) year of
experience with the Tampa Police department in a sworn capacity.
NOTE: Experience must be obtained
prior to midnight, June 16, 2023.

Examination Scoring:

100% Written Test (80 multiple
choice; 20 In-Basket questions)

Seniority-up to 20
points
The written test will be a
combination of 80 multiple choice questions and 20 multiple-choice
in-basket questions. Candidates must attain a minimum passing score of 70% on
the written test. Employees who earn a passing score on the written test, will
be granted education and seniority points consistent with Article 35.3.5.
As previously determined, seniority will be calculated up to the application
deadline, June 16, 2023 at midnight.
Candidates who qualify for Veterans' Preference based on the required
documentation will have the appropriate points assigned based on their category
after earning a passing score per current Florida Department of Veterans'
Affairs guidelines (http://floridavets.org) Additional information related to
source material question breakdown will be communicated in the invitation to
sit for the exam.
Education Points (to receive education points, the
college attended must be accredited as recognized by the FDLE salary incentive
program):

No degree = 0 points

Associate degree = 3
points

Candidates
participating in this promotional process for the first time must submit a copy
of their degree or official transcript (with signature and/or seal affixed) to
Employment Services prior to the closing date/filing deadline. Candidates
who participated in the 2021 promotion process will have points awarded based
on the degree currently on file in Employment Services and/or verified by the
TPD Personnel Unit.
If an attained degree is not on
file with TPD Personnel, it is the candidate’s responsibility to forward a copy
of the degree or official transcript (with signature and/or seal affixed)
showing the degree has been awarded. All forwarded education
documents must be received prior to 4:00PM on June 16, 2023 to
receive consideration for education points. The
transcript or diploma may be scanned and attached via upload, to the online
application or forwarded via email to careers@tampagov.net. If
