Nature Of Work
An employee in this role will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing media-related events for various city departments and divisions, including spearheading press conferences and writing press releases and public remarks for city officials. They will generate innovative ideas for media events that showcase the city positively and assist in creating engaging social media content. This individual will write, review, and edit marketing material and coordinate content for the City of Tampa’s social media accounts, collaborating with various departments to promote their goals while aligning with the City's overarching message and image. The role is pivotal in maintaining the City’s credibility, requiring consistency in voice and brand. Under general supervision, this position requires independent judgment, initiative, tact, and strong executive-level interactional skills.
Examples of Duties
Manage and help organize all press and communications events and activities, including staging, printing and distribution of materials, briefing of media reporters, photographers/videographers, and on-site support for event.
Create copy for diverse campaigns, considering goals, audience, and message.
Research, write, edit, and proof various materials including press releases, talking points, and video scripts.
Monitor social media trends and recommend actions.
Collaborate on content development for social networking sites.
Develop specific social media campaigns.
Create social media videos, graphics, flyers, and other promotional materials.
Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of: English
grammar, composition, and various social media platforms.
Skills in: Windows-based computers, Apple iPhone,
and iPad usage, Adobe Creative Suite, Photography, Videography, and Video
Editing
Ability to: Communicate effectively, manage tight
deadlines, adapt to changes, maintain
quality control
Physical Requirements
Mostly sedentary, indoors, occasionally outdoors walking and standing for extended periods of time. Computer use, keyboarding and viewing a monitor.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an
accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public
Relations, Marketing, Communications, or related field and a minimum of two (2)
years of experience in a communications or marketing-related position and or an equivalent combination of education (not less than
possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would
reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.
Licenses or Certifications
Valid Florida driver’s license required.
Examination
Evaluation
of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all
pre-employment processing.
Comments
Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
