Participates in and performs skilled tasks relative to the wastewater treatment operations technical support programs on an assigned shift; performs periodic sampling and inspection of industrial users of the sewer system; conducts routine laboratory tests and analyses and records information.
Performs physical and chemical analysis on wastewater, stormwater, seawater, and groundwater and record results; decides the most effective chemical dosage for efficient wastewater treatment.
Participates in: training both technical and non-technical personnel; developing work schedules and assignments; and, preparing monitoring plans.
Reviews all records and reports and inspects the facilities to monitor pre-treatment processes; inspects equipment for conformance to safety standards.
Investigates odor complaints from private sector and recommends pre-treatment measures and/or other solutions; operates toxic vapor detector in inspecting areas to determine exposure to toxic fumes; investigates the source of toxic pollutants in the system.
Operates light automotive equipment.
Answers questions by telephone and in person to inform the public about city services, ordinances, etc.
Performs related work as required.
Working knowledge of: principles, practices, methods, and equipment used in wastewater treatment operations and maintenance; facilities, equipment, and operating practices related to a wastewater treatment plant; water quality monitoring procedures.
Some knowledge of: occupational hazards, appropriate precautions, and methods of promoting safety; practices, methods, materials, and tools of the mechanical trades.
Ability to: conduct basic laboratory tests; maintain records and prepare clear, concise reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the general public.
Skill in: operation and maintenance of equipment utilized in industrial wastewater monitoring; operation of a light weight motor vehicle.
Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
