Introduction
This is hands
on supervisory and administrative work managing the operations, maintenance, and programming of
a group of parks or special use facilities such as a recreation center,
art studio, athletic complex, or aquatic facility.
Nature Of Work
Under general
supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for the efficient
supervision, operation, maintenance, and programming of assigned parks and/or recreation facilities. Work is of more than average difficulty and requires
reasonable initiative, independent judgment, tact, and professionalism.
Responsibilities
include direct oversight of staff, daily facility operations, grounds and
custodial maintenance, program development, community engagement, and revenue
related functions. This position
requires extensive interaction with the
public, neighborhood associations, community partners, and other City
departments.
Employees
are required to work flexible hours, evenings, and weekends, holidays, and special events. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Team Supervisor and is reviewed
through inspections, conferences, reports,
and results achieved.
Examples of Duties
This position
serves as a hands-on working supervisor with daily operational and maintenance
tasks to ensure efficient and effective daily
functions.
Plans organizes,
coordinates, and supervises park operations including custodial services,
grounds maintenance, facility upkeep, recreation programming and special events.
Assigns,
schedules, trains, supervises, reviews, and evaluates subordinate personnel; administers discipline when required; recommends hiring, promotions, and transfers; responds to employee
concerns and grievances; Interprets
and enforces departmental and City policies and procedures and safety
standards. Conducts staff meetings and
ensures clear communication of expectations and priorities.
Ensures compliance with applicable safety,
maintenance, events, permitting, programming, and operational standards.
Maintains attendance records,
financial documentation, payroll/timekeeping, and required operational reports.
Coordinates procurement and provision of resources including supplies, materials,
tools and equipment.
Develops, organizes, promotes,
and evaluates recreation programs, classes, leagues, and special events to meet
community needs.
Solicits and fosters active interest, participation and partnerships
with neighborhood groups and community
organizations, schools, and volunteers.
Responds to
public inquiries, concerns, and service requests in a professional and timely
manner.
Promotes a collaborative team
environment and maintains positive working relationships within the department
and across City divisions.
Participates in emergency
preparedness, response, and recovery activities when activated by City
leadership.
Performs related
work as required.

Physical Requirements
Work involves both office and
field responsibilities. Duties require use of a computer and administrative
functions, as well as outdoor work, site inspections, and light to moderate
lifting.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited high school (two (2) years of college coursework in parks and recreation administration preferred or a related field) and three (3) years of experience in public parks and recreation programming and/or maintenance, including one (1) year in a lead or supervisory capacity, preferred.
OR
An Equivalent combination of education (not less than possession of a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonable be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above.
Licenses or Certifications
- Valid driver's license required
- First Aid & CPR certification within six (6) months of employment
- Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred
