Introduction

The Summer Youth  Intern-Rising Explorers Program will provide high school participants with a  Summer Youth Internship opportunity. Students will be introduced to City career opportunities and gain valuable knowledge as they prepare for future employment.  Summer Youth Interns-Rising Explorers will have an opportunity to learn more about a variety of tasks within the City of Tampa departments.

Summer Youth Interns-Rising Explorers will be scheduled up to 32 hours per week (Monday – Thursday). 

All applicants must abide by the designated work schedule, professionalism and city's code of ethics. Must have reliable transportation to/from worksite locations.

Examples of Duties

The Summer Youth Intern-Rising Explorers will:

Explore and learn about a variety of entry level careers within various departments in the City of Tampa.

Learn about the core functions and the essential services of the assigned city department.

Work with a mentor on real world assignments.

Attend performance management instruction and coaching lessons.

Participate in career exploration workshops and peer networking sessions.

Interact with City staff to enhance knowledge and skill required for various jobs.

Perform other related duties as required for your job assignment. Summer Youth Interns-Rising Explores will be scheduled up to a maximum of 32 hours per week (Monday – Friday, depending on work assignment).

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age
Must be a City of Tampa resident
Must be a current Hillsborough County School student (Public or Private)
Pass pre-employment background and drug screenings
Must be able to commit to an 8-week schedule 


Licenses or Certifications

Drivers license preferred

Examination

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
