Introduction

This is responsible work involving supervision and operation of on-street parking functions.

Nature Of Work

The employee in this class is responsible for supervising the work of subordinate personnel involved in performing on-street parking activities. Work is of more than average difficulty and includes supervising the issuing of citations for vehicles violating municipal parking ordinances.

Under general supervision, the employee performs personnel related tasks such as administering discipline, participating in the grievance procedure, completing performance evaluations, and recommending employment, promotions, transfers, training, and salary increases.

Work is reviewed while in progress and upon completion through observation, reports submitted, and results obtained.

Position will require work on irregular shifts to include nights, weekends, and holidays, with rotating or split days off.

Examples of Duties

Reviews the work of subordinate personnel involved in performing municipal on-street parking activities; establishes and maintains work schedules; reviews work to ensure that instructions are carried out; issues citations for vehicles violating parking ordinances, as required.

Responds to requests and complaints from the general public, and answer questions.

Inspects and checks parking areas periodically and makes recommendations to superiors relating to metered spaces, signs, lots, and hours of operation.

Recommends discipline, demotions, and dismissals of subordinate employees as necessary; responds to employee grievances; completes employee performance evaluations; responds to employee leave requests; ensures that subordinate employees receive appropriate orientation and training.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Considerable knowledge of: methods, practices, procedures, and equipment pertinent to municipal on-street parking meters; traffic codes and parking regulations in major municipal parking operation.

Some knowledge of: parking operations; effective supervisory techniques.

Microsoft excel Knowledge with the ability to edit and develop detailed spreadsheets

Ability to: perform basic mathematical calculations with speed and accuracy; supervise and train personnel; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, municipal officials, and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school and three (3) years of experience in parking regulations enforcement to include six (6) months in supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience.

one (1) year parking operations experience Preferred

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a Florida Parking Enforcement Specialist Certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months

Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license required. 

Examination

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.
