Takes command of medical emergencies, which includes coordinating communications between the unit and physician, supervising the administration of pre-hospital emergency care to the patient, and ensuring that adjunct agencies which may be involved, such as first responder personnel and/or police department, carry out their duties in the best interest of the patient; is proficient in advanced life support techniques.
Responds to fires or emergencies with the assigned company and is responsible for search and rescue of occupants from fires, explosions, disasters, and other life threatening situations.
Provides for general safety of department personnel.
Directs company drills and training of members under command to maintain combat readiness; participates in demonstrations and conducts classes in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for general city employees, members of allied health services, Fire Department personnel, and citizens of Tampa.
Maintains records and makes reports in accordance with department standard operating guidelines.
Performs related work as required.
Considerable knowledge of: rescue methods and techniques; first aid, CPR and ACLS techniques; emergency medical techniques, practices, supplies, and equipment; firefighting techniques, equipment and terminology; search and rescue techniques and equipment.
Working knowledge of: effective supervisory and evaluation techniques; standard reports and forms, their completion and purpose; effective communication techniques.
Ability to: master integral comprehension of anatomy and physiology; apply standards of Advanced Cardiac Life Support and principles of patient handling; communicate orally, in writing and by use of hand signals; perform work requiring considerable physical exertion under hazardous conditions; work cooperatively and interact effectively with all types of people in a variety of situation; assess situations accurately, reach valid conclusions and take appropriate actions; react calmly and quickly in emergencies; plan, assign, supervise, and review the work of others; evaluates others work, recommend improvements and conduct attendant training; maintain accurate and complete records.
Skill in: the use and care of rescue and firefighting tools and equipment.
Four (4) years of service with the Tampa Fire Department including two (2) years endorsed as an acting Rescue Lieutenant or 2000 hours of acting Rescue Lieutenant Fire Higher Class.
NOTE: All the required experience and education for eligibility purposes must have been obtained prior to the deadline.
Education points will be awarded as referenced in appendix F of the IAFF contract. A copy of the diploma should be submitted if a degree was conferred. If a copy of the diploma is not available, an official transcript clearly showing a diploma conferred date can be used as proof of graduation. Acceptable certifications listed in appendix F or proof of degree must be submitted prior to the posted filing deadline.
