Seasonal Recreation Leader

Examples of Duties

Recreation Centers/Parks/Playgrounds/Pools

Summer Recreation/Youth Leaders ($15.00/hour)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a high school degree or equivalent (OR 16 years or older for Summer Youth Leaders, max 17 years old); be able to commit to a 11-week schedule; be able to attend paid training sessions. Directs a variety of recreational leadership and educational activities at an assigned recreation center or playground. Supervises participants in individual and group games, arts and crafts, sports, and special activities, in addition to coaching and officiating team activities. May be required to participate in both indoor and outdoor instructional activities, work varied hours including evening and weekend hours, work with participants of various ages, and work at various locations. Some experience and/or education working with children in art instruction, recreation or physical education is desired. May be scheduled up to 40 hours weekly.

Youth Leader ($15.00/hour): Assists with activities in an all-day seasonal camp and/or after-hours program for youth. May be scheduled up to 30 hours weekly.

Summer Specialty Camps

Reel Fishing Camp Leaders ($15.00/hour)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a high school degree or equivalent; a valid Florida driver's license may be required; be able to attend training sessions; experience working with school age children in a lead capacity is preferred. Camp leader positions are responsible for the organization and administration of a ½ day seasonal camp for children that is focused on a natural aquatic environment, oversees day to day activities, supervises campers and subordinate staff. Must be able to perform work requiring physical stamina in an outside setting. Previous fishing experience is required.

Joe Abrahams Sports Camps ($15.00/hour)

Camp Director ($16.00/hour): is responsible for the organization and administration of an all-day seasonal camp for children that is focused on an athletic environment, oversees day to day activities, and supervises campers and subordinate staff. Must be able to perform work requiring physical stamina in an indoor and outdoor setting.

Camp Key Leader ($15.00/hour): is responsible for performing a high level of developmental instruction in various sports in an indoor or outdoor setting.

Camp Leader ($15.00/hour): is responsible for leading activities in an all-day seasonal camp for children focused on an instructional sports environment. Must be able to perform work requiring physical stamina in an indoor and outdoor setting, while overseeing the safety of campers in an athletic environment.

Youth Leader ($15.00/hour): assists with activities in an all-day seasonal camp for children focused on an instructional sports environment. May be scheduled up to 30 hours weekly.

Applicants for the Camp Director, Camp Key Leader, and Camp Leader positions must be at least 18 years or older have some experience of working with school age children in a lead capacity or participation in organized sports leagues is preferred; a valid Florida driver's license may be required; be able to commit to a 9-week schedule; be able to attend paid training sessions. May be scheduled to work up to 40 hours weekly.

Summer Theater and Arts Program Leaders/Summer Roving Art Leaders ($15.00/hour)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a high school degree or equivalent; a valid Florida driver's license may be required, be able to commit to a 10 week schedule. These positions implement hands-on art activities and encourage creativity in an artistic environment for children ages 6-14. Visits multiple camp sites, directs youth and performs tasks at an art studio, recreation center, or playground. May be required to participate in both indoor and outdoor instructional activities and work with participants of various ages. Some experience and/or education working with children in art instruction and/or theater is preferred. 

Youth Leader ($15.00/hour): Assists with activities in an all-day seasonal theater and art programs and/or after-hours program for youth. May be scheduled to work up to 30 hours.

Summer Roving Reading Instructors ($15.00/hour)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a teaching certificate in elementary reading; a valid Florida driver's license is required, be able to commit to a 7 week schedule. These positions implement hands-on reading and art activities in a camp environment for elementary age children. Directs youth and performs tasks at a recreation center or playground. May be required to participate in both indoor and outdoor instructional activities and work with participants of various ages. May be scheduled up to 35 hours weekly.

Aquatic Customer Service Leader ($15.00 hour)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older; possess a high school degree or equivalent; be able to commit to an 11 - week schedule; be able to attend paid training sessions. Workers will be assigned to the front desk duties at a pool. Hours will vary and may include evenings and weekends. Good customer service skills are a must. Proficient computer skills are required with the ability to use web-based software and follow formatting procedures. This position does not require a lifeguard certification. May be scheduled up to 40 hours weekly.

JBL Rowing Camp Leaders ($15.00/hour)

Applicants must be at least 18 years or older for Camp Key Leader positions (OR 16 years or older for Rowing Camps Youth Leaders); some experience working with school age children in a lead capacity or participation in rowing is preferred; a valid Florida driver's license may be required; be able to commit to a 10-week schedule; be able to attend paid training sessions. Must be able to perform work requiring physical stamina in an outdoor setting, ensures the safety of campers in a sports environment and to perform a high level of developmental instruction in rowing.
