Assists in defining, developing, implementing, analyzing, and repairing/enhancing integrated records systems, network systems, and local based applications; coordinates the installation and implementation of computer hardware and applications for the department’s automation development; develops, designs, supports, and maintains database and other software programs; addresses system errors and deficiencies; tracks all automation projects and prepares progress reports; serves as systems file manager to include authorizing, maintaining, and preparing the proper documentation for obtaining the security group levels and template options for each user.
When working for the Police Department, an employee will serve as liaison between TPD and City of Tampa ITS, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, State Attorney’s Office, and other agencies; maintains the geographical file (GEO-file), interacting with personnel from the Hillsborough County Emergency 9-1-1 and city zoning section to verify information.
Assists in defining, implementing, analyzing, and enhancing/repairing complete and interfacing communications systems which provide Computer Aided Dispatch, Mobile Unit Digital Dispatch, and GEO coded files for the assigned department; acts as liaison between department personnel, hardware and software providers, and the City of Tampa ITS division to coordinate implementation of systems enhancements and installation of equipment; addresses system errors and deficiencies; provides training as needed; provides statistical reports; receives, logs, reports, prioritizes, and tracks issues and problems concerning operations; participates in defining the specifications for new programs or program changes, designing reports, and identifying and representing user needs.
Assists in facilitating transaction/document flows through automated processing systems.
Develops training curriculum, schedules classes, and prepares documentation which relates to new enhancements and special operational procedures; evaluates the performance of the system; develops program changes, designs reports, and identifies and represents user needs; serves on a variety of committees and participates in projects as assigned.
Performs related work as required.
Working knowledge of: methods, equipment, and procedures employed in computer operations; mainframe, personal computer operating systems, software, hardware and peripheral device operations.
Some knowledge of: training methods and techniques.
Ability to: train others; address and solve complex problems with and without verbal and written instructions; prepare documentation and reports; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school and three (3) years of experience in a field directly related to the functions of the area to which the position is assigned to include six (6) months of experience in working with personal computers, advanced application of word processing, or collection, input, analysis, or dispersal of department data into/out of a mainframe computer; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Possession of a valid drivers license may be required.
Preferred: HDI Certification, A+, ITIL Knowledge
