Designs and details working drawings, and prepares utility construction plans, specifications, and contract documents for general or specialized public utility projects; reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings and diagrams, plans and specifications, etc., to facilitate proper construction; conducts surveys, completes profiles, and computes grades for construction of sanitary sewers, water mains, and such public works projects as storm sewers, streets, sidewalks, curbs, buildings, and other structures.
Performs office engineering functions; prepares metrics, analyzes plans and specifications, estimates costs, reviews requests for service, and performs area studies for problem analysis; researches easement and right-of-way conditions; designs systems for piping and equipment layout; updates records in GIS and AutoCAD.
Conducts some on-site inspections of construction jobs; provides input into submission of final as-built construction plans; coordinates specifications for contract construction work with contractors, engineering firms, and governmental agencies; provides input and reviews development or revisions of rules, regulations, ordinances, and correspondence.
Applies for and obtains State and local permits; receives and responds in writing to requests from the general public and representatives of other agencies in order to provide information.
Trains sub-professional, technical, and clerical personnel, as required.
Performs related work as required.
Some knowledge of: principles and practices of the assigned area of engineering; federal, state, and municipal rules, regulations and ordinances, and other pertinent documents; developments and information in assigned field of engineering.
Ability to: Work in a fast pace team environment, design utility infrastructure, maintain project schedules, manage multiple projects simultaneously, read and interpret engineering plans, develop and create specifications, develop construction sequencing, analyze engineering data and draw sound conclusions, prepare and submit clear, concise reports both orally and in writing, establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and the general public.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably related to Water Resource and Environmental Engineering.
NOTE: Individuals currently in their last semester of school may apply. Should they be selected prior to graduation, they will have six (6) months to complete their degree in order to retain their position.
