Please read this information in it's entirety as it provides important information regarding the submission of non-traditional documents for education verification purposes. At the end of the document, you will be required to acknowledge that you have read and understand this information. If you have questions, please contact Employment Services (813-274-8911) prior to the deadline for clarificaition.

The City will accept FSFC college-level courses as traditional college course equivalents when established criteria are met.  Each candidate for promotion will maintain the responsibility to provide copies of proof of equivalency upon submission of their application.  Acceptable documentation will include:

1)      FSFC Certificate of Completion and either

2)      Clear documentation from an accredited college or university that shows a specific, equivalent course available at that college of university, or

3)      A transcript that verifies the FSFC course has been recognized by an accredited college or university on an official transcript.

Example 1:  A course catalog from an accredited college or university shows an FSFC equivalent course, such as “Hillsborough Community College (HCC) course FFP 1710 Company Officer = FSFC course FFP 2720 Company Officer”.  Credit will be granted toward qualifications for promotional examinations when the candidate for promotion provides an FSFC Certificate of Completion and evidence of equivalency from HCC’s website or an official letter signed by a school official.

Example 2:  Subsequent to completing an in-service course with FSFC, an employee enrolls in an accredited college or university, and during the course of the evaluation of previous education, it is determined that the student will be awarded credit hours for the FSFC course.  Credit will be granted toward qualifications for promotional examinations when the candidate for promotion provides an official student transcript.

Human Resources-Employment Services Division can accept information only when it comes from an official source and clearly shows equivalency and the number of credit hours issued.  All documentation must be submitted prior to the established deadline within the test posting.  Consistent with our practices, no assumptions can be made.  Upon verification, education documents which meet the established standard will be used to determine basic qualifications and award the appropriate education points.

We appreciate the opportunity to review this recommendation and the partnership in coming to this agreement designed to further enhance the promotional process for Tampa Fire Rescue.
