Communications Strategist

An employee in this role will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing media-related events for various city departments and divisions, including spearheading press conferences and writing press releases and public remarks for city officials. They will generate innovative ideas for media events that showcase the city positively and assist in creating engaging social media content. This individual will write, review, and edit marketing material and coordinate content for the City of Tampa’s social media accounts, collaborating with various departments to promote their goals while aligning with the City's overarching message and image. The role is pivotal in maintaining the City’s credibility, requiring consistency in voice and brand. under general supervision, this position requires independent judgment, initiative, tact, and strong executive interaction skills. The role involves frequent driving, standing for extended periods, lifting equipment up to 50 pounds, and working in a fast-paced environment.

- Manage and help organize all press and communications events and activities, including staging, printing and distribution of materials, briefing of media reporters, photographers/videographers, and on-site support for event.

Knowledge of: Proficient in English grammar, composition, and various social media platforms.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a communications or marketing-related position.

Valid driver’s license required.

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
