Operates a mobile crime laboratory; processes crime scenes for evidence; photographs crime scenes; photographs and fingerprints deceased persons; makes plaster casts; performs gunshot residue tests; collects, processes and preserves evidence; attests to validity of evidence in court.
Takes, classifies, searches, compares, and files fingerprints; verifies fingerprint cards as classified by subordinate technician for accuracy; files information in criminal history jackets and fingerprint files.
Processes and issues non-motorized vehicle permits; processes civil applicants using the LifeScan.
Types detailed supplements and other written materials to establish a permanent record describing the crime scene; processes booking reports; maintains fingerprint, photographic, and criminal identification files.
Provides other law enforcement agencies with information and photographs from identification files in order to facilitate their investigation; instructs lower level technician in performance of assigned duties in accordance with organizational procedures.
Assumes responsibilities of the shift supervisor in their absence.
Performs related work as required.
Considerable knowledge of: modern fingerprinting, fingerprint classification and crime photography techniques; fingerprint procedures of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and other law enforcement agencies.
Working knowledge of: office management, records keeping, and report writing procedures.
Some knowledge of: courtroom proceedings.
Ability to: operate a mobile crime laboratory; photograph crime scenes and preserve evidence; effectively testify in court as to findings; maintain records and perform general office duties; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public; type accurately at a reasonable rate of speed; handle confidential documents according to procedures in order to maintain their security; perform duties requiring physical strength and endurance; work under hazardous conditions.
Skill in: operation and maintenance of photographic and fingerprint dusting equipment.
