Introduction

This is responsible managerial work involving coordination of partnerships and service provider contracts with the City of Tampa, Tampa Convention Center.

Nature Of Work

The employee in this class is accountable for building and creating long-lasting relationships with contract partners and TCC clientele.  Work is of considerable difficulty and includes but is not limited to the following partner/contractors: exclusive food & beverage, audio visual and production, telecommunications/internet, utilities installation, business center, security guard service, housekeeping/setup teams and ambassador program contractor and any future partners/contractors that may be added to the portfolio as a result of development.  Under direction, the employee must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment while providing high level support implementing and communicating the Mayor’s T3 Initiatives and ensuring brand consistency through development of trending strategic initiatives.  Work is reviewed through observations, conferences, reports and achievement of desired results. Appointed position; employee serves at the pleasure of the Mayor.

Examples of Duties

Collaborate, develop, and implement programs that support the Tampa Convention Center’s vision and short/long-term plans.
Direct and execute technical and administrative policies and procedures for the effective performance of departmental functions as it specifically affects the partner/contractor; facilitate the enhancement of a common vision for growth and development. 
Review contracts and operational schedules to make certain that the dates, times, facilities, and equipment provided are accurate and provisions made have been fulfilled. 
Work closely with contract partners and internal TCC departments to monitor progress and correct course if required. 
Prepare and maintain reports; assign, develop, and evaluate staff; manage budgets and work assignments; prepare reports on a monthly-quarterly-yearly basis. Identify new revenue streams/cost savings measures. 
Establish and implement long range, strategic planning procedures and effective coordination of resources; coordinate monthly planning meetings with all contractual partners. 
Research, analyze and provide recommendations regarding difficult, sensitive, important wide-ranging policy areas that affect TCC business model. 
Create and maintain a positive culture within the Center that all contract partners and internal partners are to be held to; maintain active involvement in the on-boarding hospitality orientation and training, quarterly general sessions for all external/internal employees. 
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of:  development and management of contract specifications, implementation and contract management; operation of municipal convention center, including methods, practices, policies and procedures; methods and techniques utilized in events coordination; public assembly facility operation and maintenance; maintaining operational awareness through latest training programs and certification opportunities.
Working knowledge of: standard office operating practices business processes and procedures; supervisory and communication techniques and practices.
Ability to: communicate, lead, plan, delegate, direct, and coordinate the work of others in a manner that promotes high level performance; think strategically and participate as part of a team; organizes and maintain effective working relationships with city officials, management other employees, including the general public; write and speak clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings; interface with the media and public relations problems effectively, courteously, and tactfully; plan, organize, and refine business policies and operating procedures; development teamwork and foster open dialogue and participation; set clear objectives and measures and monitor process, progress and results; perform research and prepare information reports; initiate, analyze, and monitor the status of strategic initiatives set forth by Director of TCC.

Suggested Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, communications or a related field and five (5) years’ experience in convention center operations which includes large event coordination/planning and public assembly facility experience, and six (6) months related supervisory experience.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid Florida drivers’ license.

Comments

During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
