Introduction

This is a Part-Time position and has responsible work involving planning, coordination and quality control assessment of Emergency Medical Services provided by Tampa Fire Rescue.

Nature Of Work

The employee in this class performs work of more than average difficulty with responsibility for activities to include planning, scheduling, and reviewing the work of TFR off-duty personnel for the over 800 special events that occur within the City of Tampa.  Work is performed under general supervision and requires the ability to review situations, determine the impact on resources and provide assistance and direction to determine work priorities to ensure the proper coverage by appropriate TFR off-duty personnel.  The employee exercises considerable initiative and independent judgement.  Work is reviewed through conferences, reports submitted and results obtained. Some work must be performed on weekends and during irregular hours.

Examples of Duties

Coordinates all off duty employment requiring Paramedics and EMTs with various employers such as Tampa Convention Center, Amalie Arena, Tampa Sports Authority, Steinbrenner Field, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tampa Sports Authority, Tampa Bay Lightning, Yankees, Storm, etc.
Attend all city department coordinator meetings for special events; establishes work schedules and priorities; coordinates personnel deployment.
Establishes and adjusts work assignment requirements as necessary; reviews work performed by TFR off-duty Personnel; maintains records of all activities during events.
Processes invoicing for off duty events, payroll dispersal and equipment fees.
Acts as liaison to external purchasing agents as well as other City departments regarding special events.
Assists the Rescue Division Officer with calls regarding reports of personal property loss. Assists with HIPAA requirements and patient confidentiality issues.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Considerable knowledge of: principles, practices, skills and techniques of emergency medical care and medical equipment.
Knowledge of: special event operations; computers and basic windows applications.  
Ability to: speak and write clearly and succinctly in a variety of settings and on a variety of subjects related to special event operations; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, municipal officials, representatives of event sponsors, and handle problems tactfully and courteously.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in emergency medical services, paramedic, nursing or a related field and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience as a paramedic, emergency medical technician, nurse, or a field related to emergency medical services; or an associate’s degree in emergency medical services, paramedic, nursing or a related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as stated above; preferably including six (6) months in experience in special event planning and management.  Candidates who provide proof of 60 college credit hours or more, to include paramedic and EMT certifications, will be given consideration.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license required.
Valid State of Florida Paramedic certification. 

Comments

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
