Introduction

This is highly specialized work involving maintenance of the City of Tampa fuel and Electric Vehicle (EV) charging sites. Bargaining unit position.

Nature Of Work

An employee in this position is responsible for inspection and required repairs of Fleet Maintenance’s fuel management system which includes commercial fuel sites dispensing diesel, unleaded fuels and Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations. Supports, as required, the fuel inventory management records for the citywide fuel system which consist of automated fuel sites, manual fuel sites, encompassing multiple pumps, fuel tanks and EV sites. The work involves completing monthly fuel regulatory inspections and as needed site repairs. Support, as required, processing of the monthly fuel billing for all the city’s fuel usage, this includes processing monthly fuel billing for outside retail WEX cards purchases. Work is performed under the guidance of a lead fuel coordinator and evaluated through fuel inventory levels, reports and work produced.

Examples of Duties

Work within the City of Tampa’s automated fuel system to monitor fuel sites to ensure proper operation and compliance is maintained at all times.

Places fuel orders in coordination with and/or through the Fuel Control Coordinator to ensure duplicate efforts are avoided and fuel sites remain at peak levels twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week to fully support the City’s fuel requirements.

Assists in the processing and billing of fuel usage which includes monthly billing for outside retail WEX cards purchases.

Greets, communicates, and corresponds with fuel customers and suppliers either in person, by mail, email and/or telephone.

Utilize the City of Tampa’s fuel dispensing accountability system to ensure all fuel keys are properly assigned, operate correctly and processes employee authorizations for city vehicles in coordination with the Fuel Control Coordinator.

Conducts routine maintenance and performs routine inspections at City of Tampa fuel sites.

Responds to inquiries and requests for service or information.

Assist with fire fuel system maintenance.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of: fuel system operations and maintenance; computer operations as related to an automated fuel systems, FASTER and various other fuel related software; EV and Hybrid Management Systems, fuel compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and other regulatory agencies.

Working knowledge of: rules, regulations and procedures of the assigned area. Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Excel.

Ability to: establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of City of Tampa, other local governments, and external vendors; express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; collect, record and analyze data from fuel sites and automated fuel system; explain fuel operational problems to technical personnel; work independently.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school and one (1) year of experience in fuel system management or other related areas of fuel control, or an equivalent combination of related training and experience.

Experience working with EV and Hybrid Management Systems, fuel compliance with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) and other regulatory agencies is a plus.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license.

Comments

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
