Schedules,
coordinates, and supervises the operation of a major automotive repair and
service center.
Assigns and oversees the
performance of a variety of complex maintenance and/or specialized repair tasks
on automotive, construction and/or special vehicles and equipment; inspects and
tests completed work to ensure conformance to prescribed standards of quality
and safety; provides technical assistance and guidance to subordinates in
solving unusual or complex mechanical problems; supervises the dispensing of
fuel, oil, and transmission fluid in servicing operation.
Prepares and maintains
records and reports incidental to servicing, inspection, maintenance, and
repair work accomplished by the work unit and supplies and materials used.
Recommends changes and
adjustments in personnel to accommodate working conditions; trains and
instructs subordinates in the proper use of tools and instruments, and in
safety methods in order to avoid injuries; evaluates and recommends tool and
equipment acquisition and replacement; develops and recommends work method
modifications to improve work output and/or quality.
Documents customer
complaints to correct problems or avoid reoccurrence; utilizes information
provided by clients/complainants to complete service requests; answers
questions on the telephone and in person to inform others about problems.
Uses
a camera to document damage to vehicles and job sites.
Prepares
written reports to provide information, data, findings, recommendations, etc.;
performs mathematical calculations.
Provides
input on repair center budget to be included in unit budget; recommends such
personnel actions as employment, promotions, transfers, demotions, suspensions,
and dismissals; administers required discipline and responds to employee
grievances; completes performance evaluations.
Performs
related work as required.
Extensive
knowledge
of: standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment used in automotive
servicing, maintenance, and repair.
Considerable knowledge of: occupational hazards and safety precautions of the automotive
maintenance and repair trade; construction, assembly, and maintenance
requirements of diversified automotive equipment.
Working knowledge of: operation and use of a variety of automotive vehicles and
equipment; effective supervisory techniques; maintenance planning and
scheduling techniques.
Ability to: locate, define, and repair defects in a wide variety
of general or specialized automotive equipment; plan, assign, and supervise the
work of others; manage and direct operation of an automotive repair and service
center; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees
and the general public; follow oral and written instructions, prepare estimates
and submit clear, accurate, and complete reports.
Skill
in: use and care of tools and
equipment of the trade.
Certification by National
Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (NIASE) in four (4) or more of the
automobile or heavy-truck areas. Truck Line and Heavy Equipment must obtain
certifications in Medium-Heavy Truck Certification Tests (T1 – T8). Sedan Line
must obtain certifications in Automobile & Light Truck Certification Tests
(A1 - A9) OR the ability to obtain NIASE certifications within six (6) months
of employment.
Possession of a valid
Florida driver’s license; a valid Florida commercial driver’s license class “B”
is required for Truck Line and Heavy equipment or the ability to obtain within
six (6) months of employment.
