Introduction
This is highly responsible supervisory and
technical work for the Solid Waste Collections
Division involving managing
assets, and inventory, credit and collections activities and dispatching.
Nature Of Work
An employee in
this class is responsible for managing a significant dollar value in assets and
inventory. Work is of considerable difficulty and involves the application of
considerable initiative and independent judgment
in developing and recommending methods
to address specific
projects/problems, improve efficiency, and increase services/revenues. This position supports the
capital improvement needs of the department and sets and maintains the
direction of the Support Services Facilities, Fleet, Repair & Maintenance,
Dispatch, and Security components of the Solid
Waste Collections Division
which are tasked with
activities necessary to ensure the reliable, efficient and cost-effective
operation of the collection system. Under administrative direction, the
employee performs assignments related to leadership and Solid Waste collection
system preventative and reactive maintenance matters, which are complex and of
unusual difficulty requiring the exercise of extensive initiative and
independent judgment. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports submitted,
and results obtained.
Examples of Duties
Provides
assistance to the Solid Waste Chief of Administration in maintaining focus on the vision of the organization; continuously communicates the vision to other team members; leads by example; proactively interacts
with the organization; builds and maintains a culture of trust.
Performs assignments necessary
to support Solid Waste collection system preventive and reactive maintenance
matters; oversees through subordinate supervisors: vehicle and equipment
coordination and maintenance; planning, scheduling, dispatching; and other
support activities.
Coaches and
motivates subordinates; facilitates communication with the maintenance teams;
identifies problems in early stages and applies
appropriate solutions; reviews/
updates standard operating
procedures (SOPs); evaluates performance of subordinates; mediates employee
disputes; makes timely decisions.
Stays current
with industry trends and new strategies; ensures
that sufficient resources
are available; directs implementation of new strategies.
Supports the core business
by removing obstacles, taking responsibility and making timely decisions.
Performs related work as
required.

Physical Requirements
Mostly sedentary, indoors,
requires extended use of computer, typing and viewing monitor.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or
university with a bachelor's degree in engineering, public or business
administration, or construction management and a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in Solid
Waste collection system
operations, construction and
maintenance, including three (3) years of experience in supervision or
management.
Licenses or Certifications
Possession of a valid
driver’s license required.
