Introduction

This is highly responsible supervisory, administrative and technical work for the City’s Stormwater Operations.

Nature Of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for the day to day supervision of operations employees in the Transportation and Stormwater Operations Division.  Under administrative direction, employees performs assignments which are complex and of unusual difficulty requiring the exercise of extensive initiative, independent judgment and leadership. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports submitted and results obtained.

Examples of Duties

Provides day-to-day leadership of multiple projects and initiatives.  

Monitors and evaluates work practices and overall team performance; coaches and motivates other leadership team members, team leaders and specialists; facilitates groups; identifies problems in early stages; makes timely decisions; monitors and demonstrates continuous improvement.  

Assists division manager in strategic planning which includes budget administration, resource allocation, goal development, employee development, performance evaluations; tracking, implementing and completing departmental goals and objectives.  

Coordinates balance of resource pool through planning with all division team leaders and support supervisors.  

Supports the teams’ core business by removing obstacles to continually improve operational reliability, cost effectiveness by increasing automation, updating equipment and developing staff when appropriate.  

Ensures effective two-way communication throughout the organization; communicates with City administration; serves as intergovernmental and intradepartmental liaison.   

Responsible for all Transportation and Stormwater Operations Division responsibilities in Division Manager’s absence.  

Perform related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school supplemented by six (6) months of college coursework in business, public administration or related coursework and five (5) years of progressively responsible transportation operations experience including two (2) years supervision leading large work teams. 

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license required.

Comments

During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
