Nature Of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for ensuring the efficiency, productivity, and effective performance of a team within the Water Engineering Division. Under direction, the employee performs tasks of more than average difficulty requiring the exercise of considerable initiative and independent judgment. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports/metrics submitted, and results obtained.

Examples of Duties

Monitors and evaluates work practices for improved team productivity; schedules resources for team members’ growth; maintains continuous 30- day forecast of resources and projects; evaluates performance measures; evaluates work practices.

Coordinates job assignments; monitors and supports field operations; resolves team conflicts; provides safety review.

Holds weekly team meetings to evaluate team/project progress; provides guidance and team leadership to meet established objectives.

Develops effective team members to include providing goals and objectives; reinforces and supports the use of business skills, technical skills, and team skills; deals with personnel issues and administers discipline when required; communicates needs and expectations; evaluates performance.

Co-develops, reviews, and implements plans and goals; coordinates the work with other teams, support groups, and leadership. Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of: planning/scheduling; pipeline/utility construction; team dynamics; performance management; budgeting.

Ability to: motivate; inspire; organize; maintaining continuous forecast of resources and projects.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school or vocational school and five (5) years of experience in leading or working in a team environment, preferably with water utility or comparable industrial experience; or an equivalent combination of training or experience.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of: A valid driver’s license; A Level III Water Distribution System Operator License; A Backflow Tester certification or ability to obtain within (6) months of employment

Comments

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
