Nature Of Work

An employee in this position will primarily manage the City of Tampa's social media accounts and create digital content including video, photography, and graphic designs. They will understand the City’s branding standards and develop content that complements the brand, collaborating with other departments to ensure consistency in messaging. This role is pivotal in executing and refining the City’s credibility by ensuring consistency in voice and brand. The employee will work in a fast-paced environment, spending much of their day going from various events to meetings throughout the city. They must be able to work independently, including driving to and from events. Tact and courtesy are expected, as the position often requires higher-level executive and client interaction skills. Work is reviewed through observation of final product and feedback from departments regarding results obtained.

Examples of Duties

  • Manage City of Tampa's social media accounts, including generating, editing, publishing, and sharing daily content.
  • Develop social media campaigns to address specific goals and initiatives.
  • Monitor and engage in City-related online conversations.
  • Respond to social media inquiries in a timely and courteous fashion.
  • Analyze social media performance metrics and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Coordinate printing services as needed.
  • Perform related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Working knowledge of: English grammar, composition, and punctuation; publication formats and procedures; methods, principles, and practices utilized in graphic design; Adobe Photoshop CC, InDesign CC, Illustrator CC, and Premiere Pro CC; all applicable social media and analytics platforms; MS Office; Google Drive; photographic techniques and materials; video editing software; website development. 

Ability to: effectively communicate through written and verbal skills; handle the pressure of meeting tight deadlines; learn and adapt quickly to change; demonstrate time management and organizational skills; maintain quality check on all pieces; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, departmental representatives, and the public. 

Skilled in: the operation of Windows-based computers; the use of Apple iPhone and iPad.

Physical Requirements

Mobility frequent sitting, standing and walking, pushing, pulling, balancing, bending, twisting, climbing, kneeling, squatting; Lifting/Carrying—frequently 40 — 60 pounds; Dexterity — frequent handling, reaching, grasping, and fingering; Hearing/Talking — frequent hearing and speaking normal speech and speaking loudly over equipment noise; occasional hearing/talking on a radio; Visual —frequent use of good overall vision, at normal or corrected to normal acuity; frequent use of depth perception and peripheral vision; occasional reading and close-up work; very frequent use of computer monitor(s), attention to details, detailed inspection, monitoring equipment, transcription/proofreading; Environmental — very frequent indoors, outdoors, exposure to varied weather conditions; Emotional/Psychological — frequent concentration and working independently; Special Requirements — working overtime, weekends, nights, holidays and/or emergency call-back; occasional travel.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, marketing, communications, graphic design, or related field and a minimum of six (6) months of experience as a graphic designer, social media coordinator, and/or copywriter.

Licenses or Certifications

Valid Florida driver’s license required.

Examination

Evaluation of education and experience. Drug testing is included in all pre-employment processing.

Comments

Employees may be required to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed. During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
