Introduction

This position is responsible for researching, analyzing and coordinating the recovery efforts of third-party property casualty claims.   

Nature Of Work

An employee in this class is responsible for performing tasks of more than average difficulty which involve extensive contact with parties involved with insurance claims. Employees follow established processes that provide fair claim recovery resolutions, customer satisfaction and cost management. Tasks involved require positive interpersonal skills, the exercise of tact and courtesy, and effective writing skills. Work is performed under general supervision and reviewed through conferences, reports submitted, and results obtained.

Examples of Duties

Coordinates end to end management of subrogation claims according to city policy and state requirements.

Conducts detailed research and analysis following loss of or damage to city property; collects statements from involved parties; compiles all related reports and documentation.   

Manage active communications with involved parties, insurance companies, and city employees to determine fault; negotiate settlements for pending claims per supervisor direction; makes arrangements for payment options.

Prepares subrogation demands to send to at-fault parties; processes payments received from involved parties. 

Maintains accurate and detailed file notes; tracks recoveries and provides related reporting; prepares correspondence; assists supervisor with related projects.

Keeps abreast of claim and related legal principles, tax requirements as well as underwriting rules and procedures.

Performs related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Considerable knowledge of: insurance and claims procedures; legal terminology; business English and accepted practices of grammar and composition; modern business practices, procedures and equipment.  

Working knowledge of: insurance contracts; customer service; computers and related software; record keeping and file maintenance.

Ability to: address customer service issues in an effective and courteous manner; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships; conduct detailed research; compile, analyze and organize data and information; problem solve; access and use automated databases; understand and follow complex oral and written instructions; read, understand and interpret insurance, police and legal documents. 

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited high school and three (3) years of insurance claims experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid State of Florida driver’s license.

Possession of Florida claims adjuster license 6-20 desired.

Comments

During periods when the Mayor issues an emergency declaration for the City of Tampa, all employees may be required to work in preparation, response or recovery activities related to the stated emergency.
