Introduction

This is highly responsible work in providing for the safety and security of the Mayor of Tampa.

Nature Of Work

Under the direction of the Office of the Chief of Police – Criminal Intelligence Bureau (CIB), the employee in this class of work is charged with the personnel safety of the Mayor while conducting all official City of Tampa business. The overall mission of the position is to coordinate and maintain a security program for the Mayor. Responsibilities are of more than average difficulty and include but are not limited to: travel support, investigations, risk analysis, and general personal protection support. The exercise of considerable initiative and independent judgment is required in the performance of assignments. Work is reviewed through results obtained. Appointed position; employee serves at the pleasure of the Mayor.

Examples of Duties

Coordinates, evaluates and tests security plans and procedures that will best provide security of the Mayor.

Proactively identifies, evaluates and resolves security/safety issues that pose a potential risk to the Mayor, recommending appropriate responses; develops emergency response plans and procedures relevant to the safety and security of the Mayor.

Evaluates and maintains current knowledge on security issues, procedures, technology, and laws governing security activities and methods.

Prepare reports on risk, procedures, technologies, and incidents, etc.

Keeps immediate supervisor informed as to current and future activities.

Secures the areas and locations when the Mayor appears at a public event.

Maintains the city vehicle assigned to the Mayor by scheduling maintenance, refueling, and general appearance of the vehicle.

Performs other related duties as required or assigned by the Office of the Mayor or designee assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Bureau.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Considerable knowledge of: modern security techniques, procedures, and technology; current laws and regulations governing security activities and methods.

Ability to: respond quickly to situations that may create risk to the safety of the Mayor; formulate, evaluate and test strategies and plans to provide superior protection and risk avoidance; anticipate and identify possible threats with the use of current, appropriate techniques and tactics; work with law enforcement, city and media officials, and other security personnel; exercise mature judgment and sound reasoning in response to any situation that has a potential for risk to the safety of the Mayor; maintain a courteous and tactful demeanor in all interactions with City of Tampa staff, officials, the media, and the general public.

Skill in: providing maximum security for the Mayor in all public situations.

Suggested Minimum Qualifications

Employee assigned to this position must be a City of Tampa Police Department certified law enforcement officer.

Licenses or Certifications

Possession of a valid drivers license may be required.
