THE POSITION

Cadastral Mapping Technician II 

As a Cadastral Mapping Technician II, you will perform mapping duties, read and interpret written boundary descriptions on parcel and other maps employing GIS, mechanical and CAD drafting. This class is distinguished from the Cadastral Mapping Technician III by the latter’s ability to provide instruction, assign and review work and maintain standards for other workers.

Education and Experience Requirements 

Education
Completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter units of academic coursework from an accredited college or university in civil drafting, surveying, trigonometry, geometry, and computer aided design/drawing.

OR

Certificate/diploma of completion of a beginning to intermediate level either in an AUTOCAD or GIS Course Program from an accredited technical school or program.

Experience
Two years of experience in CAD or GIS with experience in civil drafting or cartography related to interpreting legal property descriptions and drawing scale maps.


The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • One (1) year or more of experience with ESRI software including ArcMap 10.x, ArcGIS Pro 2.x or more recent, and Portal or ArcGIS Online
  • One (1) year or more of experience in GIS performing spatial data management.
  • An understanding of geospatial topics and best practices including proper projections, linear referencing, georeferencing and topology validation. 
  • Cartographic skills that depict a clear understanding of map composition and symbology principles with the ability to produce maps for reports, meetings, posters, etc.
  • Proven ability to locate, download, create, edit, and manage vector and raster datasets.
  • Proven ability to work independently, take direction and pro-actively manage time and resources on multiple concurrent projects with minimal supervision.  
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, superiors, vendor representatives, outside agencies, and clients.
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

BENEFITS/ WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?



Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage is $1,900.58 per month for 2023. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. The County may offer a supplemental contribution for employees enrolled in Employee plus Two or More coverage.

Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security. 
The County observes twelve (12) full day fixed and two (2) half day fixed paid holidays per year. Additionally, employees in this bargaining unit receive two (2) floating paid holiday(s) per year.  Vacation is accrued at approximately ten (10) days per year. Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.

Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years.

Based on the information provided in the application documents, the qualified applicants may be invited for further examination and will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a supplemental questionnaire assessment, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed. Responses to supplemental questions may be used as screening and testing mechanisms and will be used to assess an applicant’s ability to advance in the process; as such, responses to supplemental questions should be treated as test examination responses. A minimum score of 70% is required to continue in the selection process, unless otherwise announced. VETERANS PREFERENCE POINTS
