    The Family Health Services Clinics of the Health and Social Services Department is currently recruiting for a part-time Clinic Physician (Board Certified). The mission of Family Health Services (FHS) is to provide superior, comprehensive, primary medical and dental care in order to improve the health and quality of life of Solano County residents. We have a special commitment to the uninsured, low-income, and medically underserved. As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), we are a safety net provider. To support our mission, FHS offers four conveniently located clinics in Fairfield, Vacaville, and Vallejo and mobile medical and dental vans in which we provide primary care and dental services. The outpatient primary care clinics see patients five days a week, with some weekend and evening hours offered.

    The Position

    Clinic Physicians provide medical services for programs including general medical clinics, specialized clinics, and occupational medical services; to provide on-call services. 

    They are responsibility for providing direct medical services for Health and Social Services Department clients in various programs. Employees perform highly responsible and specialized professional functions and tasks independently requiring a high degree of professional level knowledge and expertise and excellent organizational and communication skills. Incumbents are expected to be well versed in clinical practice guidelines for managing acute and chronic medical conditions. 

    The Clinic Physician differs from the Clinic Physician (Board Certified) in that the latter is required to possess and maintain certification by a specialty board recognized by the American Medical Association or the American Osteopathic Association. Employees may have programmatic, clinical, and administrative responsibilities and participate in ensuring continuous quality improvement. 

    This recruitment is intended to fill Clinic Physician (Extra - Help) positions. 

    Extra-help employees do not have rights to a regular position or continued employment and are excluded from civil service. The hours worked may be part-time or full-time, but hours cannot exceed more than 999 hours in a fiscal year.

    The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment may be used to fill full-time and part-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur throughout the County.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    Experience:

    Some professional level experience performing responsible patient evaluations and treatment of clients from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

     Education/Training:

    A Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy; additional education or training in public health services, public administration and/or clinic management desirable.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of California issued by the Board of Medical Examiners.

    Document Submittal Requirements

    A copy of Medical Degree (MD/DO) AND a copy of valid license to practice medicine in California issued by the Board of Medical Examiners is required and must be submitted prior to application deadline.


    All applicants are encouraged to submit either a copy of their college diploma (verifying the degree, date earned and area of specialization) or official/unofficial transcripts (verifying the date and degree conferred) by the final filing deadline. However, proof of this education requirement must be submitted prior to final application deadline.

    BENEFITS

    Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage for the 2023 calendar year is $1,900.58 per month. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. The County may offer a supplemental contribution for employees enrolled in Employee plus Two or More coverage.

    Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.

    Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security.

    The County observes 12 full day fixed and 2 half day fixed paid holidays per year. Additionally, employees in this bargaining unit receive 1 floating paid holiday per year. 

    Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 3 years. Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.

    Employees are eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years.

    Extra-help employees who work less than 29 hours per week do not typically receive or accrue benefits of regular employees during their period of employment. All extra-help employees accrue .034 hours of Paid Time Off for every full hour worked.
