THE POSITION

Current Solano County Probation employees are invited to apply for this promotional opportunity.

The Supervising Juvenile Correctional is responsible for staff training and supervision of the day-to-day operation of Juvenile Detention Facility, including the implementation of institutional policy and compliance with laws and requirements governing institutional operations. Supervising Juvenile Correctional Counselors function primarily as first-line supervisors with direct authority over Senior Juvenile Correctional Counselors and Juvenile Correctional Counselors and may perform the duties of Senior Juvenile Correctional Counselor when conditions warrant.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience:

A Bachelor's degree is required from an accredited college or university, preferably in criminal justice, social work, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field.

AND

One (1) year of full-time work experience equivalent to a Senior Juvenile Correctional Counselor or Senior Deputy Probation Officer OR two (2) years as a journey level Juvenile Correctional Counselor or journey level Deputy Probation Officer with Solano County or other county jurisdictions.

Licensing/Certification:

Completion of the Juvenile Counselor Core Course OR Deputy Probation Officer Core Course certified by the California Board of State and Community Corrections or equivalent. 

AND

Completion of Section 832 of the California Penal Code Training or equivalent.

BENEFITS/ WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

 

Solano County offers a cafeteria-style medical package with health benefits, offered through CalPERS. The County contribution for family coverage is $1,671.27 per month for 2022. The County offers a cash back provision for those who choose employee-only or who waive medical insurance coverage. The County may offer a supplemental contribution for employees enrolled in Employee plus Two or More coverage.

Dental and vision insurances for the employee and eligible dependents are paid 100% by the County.

Solano County participates in CalPERS retirement and contributes to Social Security. 

The County observes twelve (12) full day fixed and two (2) half day fixed paid holidays per year. Additionally, employees in this bargaining unit receive two (2) floating paid holidays per year. 

Vacation is accrued at approximately 10 days per year for the first 3 years.

Sick leave accrues at approximately 12 days per year.

 Employees in this class are also eligible to receive an additional 2.5% longevity pay, per level, after the completion of continuous service at 10, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years.

Extra-help employees who work less than 29 hours per week do not typically receive or accrue benefits of regular employees during their period of employment. All extra-help employees accrue .034 hours of Sick Time Off for every full hour worked.

Based on the information provided in the application documents, the qualified applicants may be invited for further examination and will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a supplemental questionnaire assessment, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS


  • Applicants are required to possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid California driver's license, Class C.
  • Applicants are required to have completed Section 832 of the California Penal Code training or equivalent.
  • Applicants are required to have completed the Juvenile Corrections Officer Core Course or Deputy Probation Officer Core Course certificate by the California Board of Corrections Standards and Training for Correctional Programs or equivalent.
  • Peace Officers must meet minimum standards concerning citizenship, age, character, education and physical/mental condition as set forth in Section 1031 of the California Government Code.
  • Incumbents are required to possess a current First Aid and Personal Safety certificate or obtain one within 60 days of appointment.
  • Incumbents are required to possess a current CPR Certificate or obtain one within 60 days of appointment.

Note: All licenses, certificates and registrations must be kept current while employed in this class.
